Tim,
I am just starting to learn about you and your great music. I just did interview mith Ramblin’Crew and was pickin’ they’re brain about other artist and they all spoke very highly of you. I have gone through your MySpace and Facebook and am amazed at your travels. I have railroaded since I was 18 and have been right here in Memphis, wich is safe but cool in it’s own way. If you think about playing here let me know, I have been doing the singer/songwriter thing here for a long time so maybe we could do a show. I play regular at a beer joint called Kudzu’s that is about two blocks from Sun Studio so hit me up through Flickr or Facebook as I will get my wife to put you as a friend. Hi, I just wanted to write and tell you how much I loved the show at Johnny Brenda’s in Phila. PA. My son Joe introduced me to your music and invited me to meet him with some friends at Johnny Brenda’s. I bought two of your CDs that night one for myself and one for my son. I tried to catch you after the show but you were “Long Gone” lol. Joe told me later that you were outside sitting on the step when I was trying to find a parking spot, it would’ve been great to meet you. I guess I’m sounding corny but I haven’t been so….god I can’t even think of the right word…so “Caught” “into” …anyway, what more can I say, I Love Your Music. I’m looking forward to Phila. in July!!

ONWARD TO AUSTRALIA…

I’m from Perth.
I’ve been looking forward to seeing Chuck Ragan since i saw him 1year ago with Tom Gabel, and looking forward to seeing Frank Turner since i discovered his music in Oct09…
but i gotta say, you were the absolute “mother-fuckin” standout at the Revival Perth show last night!
I’m heading out after work today to try find your album (broke last night).

TIM BARRY; “28th & Stonewall” (Suburban Home) ★★★1/2
“28th & Stonewall” is not only Richmond, Va. singer-songwriter Tim Barry’s best sounding album, it’s also his best, most consistent collection of songs to date.
Again teaming with his longtime collaborator and co-producer Lance Koehler, Barry’s songwriting has matured over the course of his career. And the broader palate of material here allows him to adventurous arrangements.
For example, some of this album’s folk and alt-country songs feature down-and-dirty, bayou-style brass accompaniments. Most notable is the bluesy “Will Travel.”
However, it’s not a total, drastic departure from the stripped-down, man-and-guitar sound he perfected in both 2006’s “Rivanna Junction” and 2008’s “Manchester.”
Armed with his trusty six-string, Barry revisits America’s shameful, slave-trade past with “Prosser’s Gabriel,” an anthem that’s reminiscent of folk great Woody Guthrie (a clear influence on Barry’s career, whether as a solo artist or with Avail, the acclaimed “emo-core” band he founded.)
Meanwhile, “Walk 500 Miles” finds Barry exploring a dying relationship.
“Lord, I get so lonely, like you wouldn’t believe. But I’m lonelier here now with you next to me,” he sings with clear regret in his voice.
While much of “28th & Stonewall” has a similarly mournful or somber tone, the album does close with “Bus Driver,” a brisk shout-along that includes, in Barry’s words, “ ‘gang vocals by friends lured to the studio by pizza and beer.’ ”
And the album opener, “Thing of the Past,” is a foot-stomping country number driven by electric and pedal steel guitar.
(Barry is expected to drawn on material from all three albums, as well as some select covers, when he plays a March 25 show at Burts Tiki Lounge, a club open to patrons 21 and older.)
